Jan Karon In 1988, Jan Karon left an award-winning advertising career to go home again -- or at least somewhere very like home. A native of the tiny mountain town of Lenoir, North Carolina. after more than 30 successful years in the business, she felt unhappy and unfulfilled. She quit her job, sold her home in Raleigh, and bought a house in the mountain resort village of Blowing Rock. It was here that Jan Karon started to write novels.
