Mrs. E's Collectible's is located in MS, heart of the Deep South.
When I was growing up here in Mississippi very little was taught about the history and contribution of African Americans (We were called "the Negro"). There was two pages in the history book, one devoted to Booker T. Washington who taught (according to the book) that the Negro was not "Ready" and George Washington Carver, who discovered many uses for the Peanut.
As I was growing up I discovered that there other literature that was literally "Bootlegged" to my older relatives who were Educators, this was like forbidden fruit.
I t was during the Civil Rights ere that I really began to dig into our history and the more I dug the more I realized how inadequate my previous education had been, for example:
What was the African contribution to what we refer to as the:
a The Hebrew Christian Bible? Who were the African Griots
that provided the information that enabled Moses to write the first five books of the old testament? The story of Creation in other African Religions seems similar .
b. My Ignorance of the History of Countries on the continent of Africa
c. The Slave trade (The Great Middle Passage, etc)
d. Culture
